What types of services are provided?
Individual Counseling - One-to-one talks with students on a short-term basis about a variety of topics including interpersonal skills and school success skills.
Interpersonal skills include:
Learning appropriate social skills.
Learning how to appropriately express feelings.
Learning how to cooperate within a group.
Developing conflict resolution skills.
School success skills include:
Developing a positive attitude about school and learning.
Learning to be academically successful through the development of organizational, study and test taking skills.
Learning how to set goals and priorities.
Group Counseling--Weekly 30-minute sessions based on the needs identified by our students. Each series runs four to eight sessions and provides the opportunity to make new friends, and to develop positive coping skills in a fun, safe setting.
Classroom Guidance--Throughout the year I visit classrooms and teach lessons that are
developmentally appropriate and preventative in nature. These lessons have included topics such as Respecting Differences, Coping With Stress, Preventing Bullying and Teasing, and Coping With Loss.
Collaboration and Consultation--I serve as a member of our school's early intervention
team. I am available for consultation with parent/guardians, teachers, and administators. In addition, I make referrals to community resources as needed.
